On Saturday, February 28, 2026, BCWSA experienced a main break at the intersection of East Winchester Avenue and North Pine Street in Langhorne. During the break, there was a loss of positive water pressure. This is a signal of the existence of conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system through back-flow by back pressure or back-siphonage. As a result, there is an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms.
Customers in the areas listed below may be at increased risk from microbial contamination:
- North Pine Street between East Watson Avenue
- Old Mill Drive
- East Winchester Avenue between Balley View and Bellevue Avenue
- East Watson Avenue between Bellevue Avenue and North Pine Street
- East Marshall Avenue
- Penns Avenue
- Elbow Alley
- Cherry Street
- Summit Avenue
- Penncrest Drive
- Greenridge Drive
- Valley View Road
- Brendwood Drive
- Long Avenue
What happened?
BCWSA received notice of a water main break in the evening of Saturday, February 28, 2026. During investigation, it was
observed that there was a loss of pressure in the area. A boil water advisory was issued for certain customers in the
area until laboratory tests come back showing no bacteria in the water. This notice is only in effect for customers listed
above. Customers outside of this area may experience discolored water but are not under a boil water advisory.
What should I do?
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.
Bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and let
it cool before using; or use bottled water. You should use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes,
brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice.
Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and
parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches. These symptoms, however, are not caused only by organisms in drinking water, but also by other factors. If you experience any of these symptoms, and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.
Guardians of infants and young children and people at increased risk, such as pregnant women, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems, should seek advice from their health care advisors about drinking this water. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1 (800) 426-4791.
What is being done?
BCWSA is working to get the main repaired. Once repairs are completed, bacteria tests will be conducted to verify that
no bacteria are in the water. Once laboratory test results come back showing that there is no bacteria in the water, we
will notify you when you no longer need to boil your water.
Please be aware that bacteria testing may take 48 – 72 hours.
Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.
