ADOPTION OF BOROUGH CODE

For the past two years, Langhorne Borough has been working with General Code to codify the Borough’s legislation into a single code document for public accessibility, readability, and clarity. At our April 8th Council Meeting, Borough Council adopted Ordinances 2026-04 and 2026-05 that together take the entirety of the Borough’s existing Ordinances and combine them into this document: the Code of the Borough of Langhorne, or the Borough Code. This Code is available for public review digitally through the Borough’s new official code website as well as physically in our new code book, kept at the Borough office. The code website shall be updated as new legislation is passed.

Ordinance 2026-04 adopts substantive revisions to the Borough Code. These revisions update the terminology of our Ordinances to refer to current departments, organizations, and sections of the Borough Code and other state codes; remove duplicate definitions; repeal Ordinances that are outdated or conflict with the provisions of the code; and otherwise bring our legislation up to current standards. All changes made to our Zoning and Subdivision and Land Development Ordinances were reviewed and accepted by our Planning Commission and the Bucks County Planning Commission as required under the Municipalities Planning Code.

Ordinance 2026-05 adopts the Borough Code itself and provides for certain non-substantive grammatical and style changes to our legislation.

The digital Borough Code is a living document that will grow as new Ordinances are adopted, and all new legislation will be listed on the code website prior to codification. While the code website will be updated regularly and in a timely manner, changes to the physical code book will take longer. Physical copies of new Ordinances are still readily available at the Borough office and will be provided upon request. The purpose of our new Borough Code is to make the Borough’s legislation more accessible and readable to all, and Borough staff will gladly work with members of the public to ensure that they have access to all proposed and adopted legislation.
